STRATEGIC Media Relations PRESS RELEASE Writing VIDEO DIRECTION Script Writing KEY MESSAGE Writing CRISIS Communications

About Mathe Communications

I started my career in Great Falls, Montana in the early 90’s as a TV reporter making $7/hour, listening to the scanner, chasing ambulances and sometimes shooting, writing, editing, producing and anchoring all in a single day. You learn real fast how to get things done. There was no internet yet.

I thought I would jump out of the frying pan and into the fire around 2002. Moving into a public relations career at Carmichael Lynch Spong (now Spong) sounded way easier than news. I was in for a surprise – and a second education.

Leading national campaigns for brands such as American Standard, Cargill, Maytag and Sherwin-Williams and traveling to New York City to coach spokespeople through media interviews proved to be more work than filing a few stories every day, but man, was it fun.

The good news is that my combined newsroom and PR agency experience gives me an inside understanding of what newsroom decision makers are looking for so I can get your company media attention. People think a press release is the way to do it, but often times it’s simply a matter of writing a compelling pitch and reaching out to the right contacts.

I’ve been working for and with local, national and trade media for more than 20 years. I welcome the chance to help you reach your audience through the right media channels.

Erin doesn’t pull any punches, which is a valuable quality when you’re looking for a media strategist. If your pitch for a product or service simply isn’t newsworthy, she’ll tell you so. If your CEO is a terrible communicator, she won’t put him or her in front of the camera without extensive coaching. If you’re sick of glad-handing PR people who tell clients exactly what they want to hear, then Erin is a breath of fresh air. She is honest without being disrespectful, realistic while maintaining a solutions-oriented approach and opinionated, yet strategically tethered by a lifetime of newsroom experiences.

Erin brings an energy and level of professionalism unparalleled. Her versatility and attention to detail help Erin successfully coach executives and other spokespeople in a wide range of industries. Having spent much of her career in TV news, Erin brings a realism not often found in media training. What’s more, she’s kept her sense of humor and makes a sometimes intimidating learning session into a fun experience.
